Day of the Dead tradition after Specter

After the 007 Specter movie, the rituals grew. Throughout the most mythical neighborhoods and the center, the streets are decorated and multiple events such as parades, night bike rides, representations of legends such as La Llorona, among other activities.

It could be said that due to this, and due to the large influx of foreign tourism, this tradition in Mexico City has become global, changing a couple of aspects of the tradition but preserving its essence.

Best activities in commemoration of the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos)

Below I will list the best events for you to come and enjoy our culture (click every below item to see details):

Zombie March:
  • It is an event that takes place year after year and takes place a couple of days prior to the celebration of the day of the dead. The march proceeds from the Monument to the Revolution to the Zocalo in Mexico City.
  • If you want to know more about when it will be done, the places it will visit and the times, take a look at its website.
Procession of Catrinas (October 23, 2022):
  • It is a parade analogous to the day of the dead but focused on variations of the Catrina, with typical music.
  • It is a parade that takes place along Reforma Avenue, and it is a parade that lasted approximately 7 hours. It is the first edition with which it is carried out.
  • If you want to know a little bit about Catrina, click here.
Mexicraneos in reform:
  • They are decorated skulls from different parts of the country, including some from other parts of the world, demonstrating the multiculturalism of Mexico in the world.
  • It is an exhibition that has been going on for 5 years and will be around a month, from October 14 to November 13 of this year.
Day of the Dead Parade (October 29, 2022):
  • It is a commemorative parade that represents that it is the day of the dead.
  • As mentioned, after the Specter movie, this tradition was changed in the City and too many open-air events began to be held along its main avenues.
  • The parade will take place from the entrance of the Puerta de los Leones of Chapultepec Park (Reform Avenue) to the zocalo (main square) from 11 am to 5 pm.
Coyoacán downtown the closest weekend to deaths (October 30, 2022):
  • It is a tradition carried out year after year by the Chilangos who go in disguise to walk through the streets of this beautiful area of the City.
  • You will find many costumes, delicious Churros with Chocolate, and above all, too many people and a good atmosphere.
Roll of the dead in reform (November 5, 2022):
  • It is an event that has been taking place for a couple of years and is unmissable, because imagine that you can take a ride through the main avenues of the city by bicycle at night.
  • Now add that you will see people in costume, it is an event that you should not miss either.
  • Available from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Show of Dia de Muertos in chapultepec (October 28, 2022):
  • It is my favorite event of the day of the dead in the City. Similarly, the entrance is through the gate of the lions. You must go early because the lines are very long, preferably go one or two hours in advance.
  • Usually it is done a couple of days before or after, but it always includes the days of the dead (November 1 and 2).
Recreation of La Llorona in Cuemanco (October 28, 2022):
