The story of Diego and Frida
Frida Kahlo
and Diego Rivera
have an age difference of almost 20 years. Diego Rivera, a famous painter who, thanks to his cubist art and his murals of the Mexican revolution, led him to share spaces like Picasso. While, Frida Kahlo, she learned from photography that her father instilled in her, being a great background for her to be able to paint after her accident on the train at the age of 18. It should be noted that Diego ended one marriage and started another.
Diego fell in love with Frida because of her talent and the emotions that he captured in her paintings, getting married when Frida was 22 years old. It was a relationship with a lot of passion and torture, since both were geniuses and artists, committed to social and political revolutions, their works and their lives are marked by the symbiosis between the two. For this reason, it creates such a stir, and they are so famous worldwide.

Blue House of Frida Kahlo:
- Context and history. Located south of Mexico City, in one of its mythical neighborhoods, it was where Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo shared their lives, which is why Dolores Olmedo opened the museum to the public, reflecting the daily life and work of the artists. Within the gates of this museum are the pots where they cooked, their bedrooms, their painting tools, Frida's Tehuana dresses, and a picturesque garden.

Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum:
- Context and history. Within Diego's expeditions along visits to archaeological ruins, putting together his sketches and a couple of paintings alongside pre-Columbian art. The museum is divided into three: hell, purgatory and heaven, where up to the top of it there is a viewpoint. The main facade refers to Coatlicue, the mother of the war god Huitzilopochtli. The edifice was designed by Juan O'Gorman.

Dolores Olmedo Museum (closed):
- Official Website of the museum.
- Context and history. The museum is a former hacienda in the Xochimilco area, which houses the largest collection of art by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. You can find very endemic fauna of Mexico such as peacocks or the Xoloitzcuintles breed of dogs.
- How to arrive. For the moment, the museum is closed until new notice.

Diego Rivera Study House in San Angel Inn:
- Context and history. Diego Rivera asked the acclaimed Mexican architect Juan O'Gorman to design a studio where Diego and Frida Kahlo could work comfortably, as well as be able to live in it. They lived for a couple of years returning from the USA until the death of Frida's father, Guillermo Kahlo, returning to the blue house.
- You will find inside. The houses were built on land sold by the architect to the painters, where part of the life and work of Juan O'Gorman can be found as a solution to the demand for the construction of new schools due to the rapid population growth in Mexico City.

- Guided tours. On Tuesdays, there are personnel who speak English and Friday are the head of department. Do not charge some extra, so some tip is fine. Similarly, you can consult it via email: medr.atencionalvisitante@inba.gob.mx or medr.pedagogia@inba.gob.mx

- Additional material. You will find a couple of QR codes with the information, which is mostly in Spanish, but you can translate it. In some rooms there are QR codes in French and English.

Diego Rivera mural museum:
- Context and history. The museum initially was not. As in the case of Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, who were asked to paint frescoes on buildings belonging to celebrities or friends. Diego painted the mural "Sueño de una tarde dominical en la alameda central" because the building was quite close to the alameda central park in Mexico City. After one of the most disturbing earthquakes we have suffered, the mural was rescued and the Diego Museum was founded, with works by the artist. As if that were not enough, outside the museum there are people playing Domino as a sport, they come together to enjoy.

Leon Trotsky Casa museum:
- Context and history. It was the house where Leon Trotsky, a political refugee who was persecuted by Stalin, lived. Trotsky had to flee from Russia because Lenin took the place that corresponded to Russia and became a political prisoner. He first lived in the blue house of Diego and Frida Kahlo, being a friend of Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera being unfaithful to Frida with her younger sister, Frida took revenge on Trotsky. Diego Rivera cost him that he will resign from the Mexican communist party, being the president of the association to be able to extradite Trotsky.
