Tourist Police in Mexico City (2026 Update)

In the most touristic areas of Mexico City you can find Tourist Police officers who are trained to help visitors with confidence. They are part of the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) and stand out because they speak multiple languages:

• English, French, Italian
• Nahuatl and Totonaca (native languages of Mexico)
• Some officers also speak German, Japanese and even Mandarin — ask and they will radio a colleague.

They wear a sand-colored uniform (boots, pants, bulletproof vest) and a light blue shirt with a Tourist Police patch. All have training in assistance, protection and first response for tourists.

Where you will find them (2026)

1. Centro Histórico — around Zócalo, Palacio de Bellas Artes and Alameda Central
2. Paseo de la Reforma — Angel of Independence and Monumento a la Revolución
3. Coyoacán — Jardín Centenario, Museo Frida Kahlo and Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli
4. Xochimilco — Nativitas and Cuemanco piers
5. Polanco — Lincoln Park, Avenida Presidente Masaryk and Chapultepec Park entrances

They work 24/7 in shifts and are very approachable — just say Turist Police, help? and they will assist.

What they told us at the Frida Kahlo Museum

• Who is a tourist? Anyone from outside Mexico City, even from the neighboring State of Mexico. You are entitled to assistance.
• Languages: Everyone speaks Spanish + English; the squad as a whole covers 6+ languages via radio.
• If you are overcharged or robbed: If an agency, hotel, airline or business overcharges you, or if your belongings are stolen, they will open a report, accompany you to the Ministerio Público if needed, and follow up until you leave the city/country.
• App "Mi Policía" (2026): The official SSC app Mi Policía has an emergency button (camera-like icon). It shares your GPS with the nearest unit. It also links to a WhatsApp assistance line +52 55 4891 1116 — save it. Click here to open WhatsApp directly.
  

Tip: Save +52 55 4891 1116 in your contacts as Tourist Police CDMX before you go out. If you need an interpreter, say the language and they will patch one in.
